Socially responsible campus

We prioritise social responsibility in all our activities and the Campus Masterplan is no exception, with a community engagement and employment scheme underpinning the project.

We are committed to being a socially responsible organisation, and as one of our three core goals, social responsibility is at the top of our agenda.

The Campus Masterplan is a significant contributor to this commitment, through creating potential employment opportunities  on sites across campus.

The University of Manchester Construction Academy will equip people from across Greater Manchester with the skills  required for the  jobs generated by the Campus Masterplan. The Academy is the only initiative of its kind in higher education and, in addition to multi-skills training,  provides  individuals with the  Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) qualification - a requirement for all site jobs in the UK.

The Academy operates via The Works, which is an employment and skills centre established by the University to support local people to develop skills, attend training courses and find jobs.

In addition to other employment opportunities available across the University, the Campus Masterplan alone has the potential to generate more than 1,000 vacancies for unemployed people living in and around our campus.
